Kuwait strengthens fire safety for government-run facilities

Kuwait is stepping up fire prevention and emergency preparedness measures across government-run wedding halls and residential care facilities as part of a wider drive to strengthen public safety and ensure compliance with national fire safety standards.
  • Kuwait strengthens fire safety at wedding halls and care homes.
  • Inspections and early warning systems to be enhanced.
  • New training programmes to improve emergency preparedness.

The initiative was discussed during a meeting between Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Affairs Dr Amthal Al-Huwailah and Chief of the General Fire Force Major-General Talal Al-Roumi. The discussions focused on reinforcing fire safety systems, improving operational readiness and strengthening coordination between the two organisations.

According to the Ministry of Social Affairs, priority will be given to ensuring that ministry-operated facilities, particularly wedding halls and care homes, meet approved fire and safety requirements while enhancing preparedness to protect visitors, residents and staff.

Dr Al-Huwailah emphasised the need for strict compliance with technical and safety regulations governing wedding halls, noting that adherence to these standards helps protect the public while supporting the licensing process by ensuring facilities satisfy regulatory requirements.

The minister also called for regular inspections of all wedding halls, improved preparedness among personnel responsible for managing the facilities and the introduction of advanced early warning systems as part of the ministry’s future modernisation plans. The measures are intended to strengthen preventive safety standards and improve emergency response capabilities.

In addition, continuous monitoring will be maintained across care homes operated by the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Public Authority for Disability Affairs and the Supreme Council for Family Affairs to help provide a safe environment for residents, beneficiaries and employees.

The ministry will also introduce specialised training programmes and emergency response courses designed to improve staff capabilities in implementing safety procedures and responding effectively to emergencies.

The meeting was attended by Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Affairs Dr Khaled Al-Ajmi, together with senior officials from the Ministry of Social Affairs and the General Fire Force, highlighting the government’s continued focus on strengthening fire safety across public service facilities.
