- Magirus develops mobile antenna mast systems up to 100m.
- New systems target defence and security applications.
- Development builds on existing specialist vehicle expertise.
The company said the new systems are being designed to provide rapidly deployable communications, reconnaissance and command infrastructure, with deployment heights of up to 100 metres. Development builds on Magirus’ existing expertise in turntable ladders and aerial rescue platforms, which currently provide working heights of up to 68 metres.
According to Magirus, the project responds to growing demand for mobile communications infrastructure, with current market demand exceeding available supply. The company said its focus is on delivering robust, highly mobile systems that can be integrated onto suitable vehicle platforms and deployed with short lead times.
Magirus has already begun discussions with potential customers and reported positive feedback on demand for rapidly available mobile antenna mast solutions. The company noted that the sector remains a specialised market with relatively few established suppliers.
The new development takes guidance from the Bundeswehr’s Tactical Wide Area Network for Land-based Operations (TaWAN) initiative, which highlights the importance of resilient communications links between tactical units and command structures. Mobile antenna and microwave radio systems are intended to support reliable data transmission and command capability in demanding operational environments.
Development work will be shared between Magirus’ facilities in Ulm, Germany, and Radfeld, Austria. The Ulm site contributes expertise in aerial rescue systems and firefighting vehicles, while the former Achleitner Fahrzeugbau GmbH operation in Radfeld – which Magirus acquired six months ago – provides experience in protected and specialised vehicle development.
Alongside the antenna mast programme, Magirus is also assessing further opportunities in protected vehicles up to 18 tonnes gross vehicle weight and says it remains open to strategic partnerships as it continues to expand its defence and security capabilities for European and international markets.
