- Middle East experts join global NFPA safety discussions.
- AI and battery safety emerge as key themes.
- Abu Dhabi Civil Defence leader re-elected to NFPA Board.
Held from 22–24 June at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center, the annual event brought together more than 8,900 fire, electrical and life safety professionals from over 90 countries to exchange expertise, explore new technologies and strengthen partnerships across the global safety community.
Representatives from the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon and Türkiye participated in discussions focused on reducing fire risks and improving community resilience. NFPA said strong engagement from international delegates reflected a shared commitment to advancing safety standards and embedding safety into major infrastructure developments.
Artificial intelligence was among the key themes at this year’s conference, with a session titled “Modernising Fire Protection with AI: What Works Today with NFPA 915, NFPA 72 and NFPA 4” exploring the role of AI in improving fire protection strategies and emergency preparedness.
The session featured representatives from Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority, Dubai Civil Defence and SIBCA, who discussed practical applications of AI in areas including regulatory compliance, fire protection planning and smarter safety solutions.
Another session, “A Call to Action: Learn from the Past to Build a Safer Future – Lessons Learned from Major Middle East Fires,” was presented by Sawsan Dahham, CEO of Siena, and examined lessons from significant regional fire incidents and highlighted the importance of proactive risk management, compliance and safety-focused planning.
Saudi Aramco was among the event’s leading sponsors, while Brigadier General Mohamed Abdullah Al-Nuaimi, Civil Defence General at the Ministry of Interior in Abu Dhabi, was re-elected for a second three-year term on the NFPA Board of Directors.
The conference featured 199 technical sessions, with AI and lithium-ion battery safety among the most discussed topics. NFPA also highlighted updates to NFPA 800, Battery Safety Code, which addresses emerging technology risks.
NFPA concluded the event by reinforcing its vision of becoming “More Global, More Digital, and More Connected” through continued international collaboration and knowledge exchange.
