FCIA brings global certification bodies together for education series

The Firestop Contractors International Association (FCIA) is bringing together technical representatives from major certification and testing organisations for a new webinar series examining how firestop certification and product listings translate into requirements on the jobsite.
  • Global certification bodies will explain how firestop certification and listings work across different standards and regional codes.
  • Five live sessions will examine certification, liability and quality assurance, with contributions from UL Solutions, FM Approvals, Intertek, ESL and Thomas Bell-Wright International.
  • Industry professionals can join weekly sessions from 20 October, with recordings available to registered attendees.

The five-part series, From Test Standard to Jobsite Reality: Unpacking Global Firestop Certification & Listing, will feature technical leadership from UL Solutions, FM Approvals, Intertek, Emirates Safety Laboratory (ESL) and Thomas Bell-Wright International.

The programme will examine how passive fire protection systems – including penetration seals, linear joint firestops, perimeter fire barriers and compartmentation – are evaluated and approved across different international markets.

FCIA says the series is intended to bridge the gap between laboratory test standards and real-world jobsite compliance. Sessions will explore differences between ASTM/UL standards used in North America, EN/BS standards across Europe and the UK, and regional codes in other markets, including differences in areas such as fire exposure, pressure differentials and hose-stream criteria.

The sessions will also examine the role of third-party certification and listing in verifying that products and assemblies installed on site correspond with tested designs, as well as the implications for quality assurance, liability and life safety throughout a building’s lifecycle.

The live 45-minute sessions will run weekly on Tuesdays from 20 October, beginning at 12pm UAE time, with each session including a Q&A. Registrants will also receive access to recordings.

The programme is aimed at authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), consultants, engineers, architects, contractors, buyers and academia, with FCIA saying additional international sessions will be added.
