The new AX1 Aspirated Foam Water Sprinkler Nozzle has been developed to support the growing adoption of fluorine-free firefighting systems driven by tightening environmental regulations and increasing concern over the impact of PFAS chemicals.
Over the past decade, the industry has seen a significant shift towards foam concentrates formulated without intentionally added PFAS.
While SFFF products offer environmental advantages, they also present operational and design challenges for manufacturers and fire protection engineers.
According to Viking, the AX1 nozzle has been engineered to work with next-generation SFFF concentrates while maintaining the same level of firefighting performance expected from traditional foam systems.
The aspirated design produces a more effective foam blanket compared with standard non-aspirated sprinklers and is suitable for use across multiple fuel types.
The AX1 is available in both pendent and upright configurations. Viking said the nozzle is currently the smallest UL-listed foam water sprinkler nozzle available on the market, measuring up to 17 per cent shorter than comparable products while delivering equivalent performance.
Its compact design is intended to simplify installation in areas where space is limited, including diesel generator rooms, marine vessels, offshore platforms and fuel loading racks.
The company added that the reduced size also makes the nozzle less vulnerable to accidental damage in demanding environments such as petrochemical facilities and aircraft hangars.
Viking said the AX1 provides broad coverage across a wide range of SFFF concentrates and ignitable fuel types, supported by an extensive UL listing range.
