The Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority has warned that modern furniture featuring built-in electrical chargers is becoming a significant fire hazard due to manufacturing defects and improper usage.

Residents are urged to take safety precautions, such as avoiding long charging periods, especially overnight, and regularly inspecting cables for damage or overheating.

Officials emphasised the need for furniture to be equipped with approved electrical components and advised immediate action if any burning smells or colour changes in plugs are detected.

They also explained the importance of home smoke detection systems and encouraged the public to report any smoke or electrical faults to emergency services.
