Sharjah has announced the formation of a new committee aimed at tackling safety violations and reducing fire risks across commercial and industrial warehouses, per Khaleej Times.

The committee will carry out extensive inspection campaigns covering all warehouse facilities, ensuring they meet required health and safety standards. Authorities will assess compliance levels and identify any breaches that could pose a risk.

As part of its remit, the committee will introduce preventative measures to minimise both the occurrence and recurrence of fires. Strict penalties will be enforced against those who fail to follow safety regulations, particularly in relation to the storage of hazardous or flammable materials.

The General Command of Sharjah Police will lead the body and will include representatives from the Sharjah Civil Defence Authority, the Department of Municipal Affairs, the Department of Economic Development, and the Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority.

The decision to establish this committee was made during a meeting of Sharjah’s Executive Council.
