At least 17 military personnel were killed when a fire broke out at a major ammunition depot in Western India. Another 19 people were injured in the blaze.
The fire at Pulgaon in Maharastra state broke out before dawn and was not brought under control until late in the afternoon on the same day.
One thousand villagers living near the depot, which is one of India’s largest, had to be evacuated as Davendra Fadnavis, the state’s chief administrator said the fire had a caused ‘ a major loss of life and property.
