Spike in air pollution

A month long spell of frost, fog and freezing temperatures is reported to have  made the air quality in England’s capital London more polluted than Beijing in China.

Residents have been blamed by the government for contributing to the decline by using wood burning stoves to heat up their homes.

Pollution air readings taken on one day in January showed London’s poor air quality hit a peak of 197 micrograms of particulate matter per cubic metre at a time when Beijing’s reading of 190 was being deemed as ‘unhealthy.”
