A fire started in a protest by rioting prisoners at a penitentiary in Bengkulu in Western Indonesia killed five of the inmates.

They had started their unrest in solidarity with a regional drug kingpin had earlier been taken away by officers from Indonesia anti-narcotics agency.

As well as causing the five deaths the fire was so serious that all the other 252 inmates of the prison had to be moved to another jail in the same town.
