10 Aug Fire ravages 4,000 hectares
A devastating wildfire which started in a forest ravaged more than 4,000 hectares of land on the Canary island of La Palma.
One park ranger was killed in the blaze and as it moved close to a small village around 2,500 people had to be evacuated while soldiers, firefighting planes and helicopters were deployed to fight the flames.
A 27-year-old German later admitted to police that he had started the blaze accidentally after he answered the call of nature and then burned the used toilet paper.
