Balmoral Tanks’ vortex inhibitor improves sprinkler performance

Balmoral Tanks has designed a new vortex inhibitor (VI) which provides ‘significant improvements’ over current market options.

Sprinkler systems require fast flowing volumes of water and VI’s play a vital role by preventing air being drawn into the system which ultimately reduces the flow rate; a highly undesirable situation should a fire occur.

Approved to LPCB LPS 2070 and BSEN 12845 standards, the new inhibitor provides an impressive 30% reduction in pump suction requirements.

The unique low profile design of the Balmoral VI also results in the effective capacity of sprinkler tanks being increased by up to 2.2%.

Balmoral Tanks’ MD, Allan Joyce: “Our fluid engineers studied existing solutions very carefully and, using fluid dynamics software, designed a superior solution to the current industry standard.

“Every time a moving fluid changes direction there is pressure loss. Due to the hydrodynamics of Balmoral’s VI we reduce this loss by approximately 30% compared to existing designs.”
